Thanksgiving and More

The days stream by so fast I make sure the calender is handy on my desk otherwise I would be lost in July or in "Seattle" as the saying goes! I managed Halloween and now can look forward to Thanksgiving and all that immediately comes after that. The recent Craft Fair is past, and coming up is the Garage Sale. A friend's birthday is also on the horizon,  that I offered to create a gourmet style food presentation for us  to enjoy at her new house and special day; the food part is my pleasure and little gift to her as she is such a wonderful friend.
Friendship  is not to be taken lightly. To be a friend and to have a friend takes work but it is work from the heart. Do you remember what your mother said about friends throughout your life? If you have five really good friends you are very blessed. Two or three is more the norm. After all, how many can you sustain and still look after the home front of hubby and possibly grown children and grandchildren. For example, I have a tattered list of all the important birthdays set out on each month to keep me in good graces. I know my children, all three over fifty, expect me to never slip up or they will think I am over the hill ready for the assisted living place! I am in Florida and they are all on the West coast, in Arizona and Vancouver, so sometimes I have to refresh my mind with their current pictures so I will recognize them the next time we meet. I on the other hand remain exactly the same year by year, never growing older or such!
I am going to inset my Halloween baking that I took to another  friend's party. Just see how cute these little witches are, and very tasty with Hazelnut icing under their hats.

This idea could be tucked away for next Halloween.  The cone hats are small size ice-cream cones 'painted' with black Candy Melt. The hat is a cup cake paper upside down with the base cut out to slide down over the cone, creating the brim. Then bake a normal size cup cake, and make a delicious icing with butter, confectioner sugar and a good scoop of Hazelnut spread. ( bet you hadn't thought to use that flavoring in butter cream before). The extra touch is the broomstick bristles, made with 8" lengths of Raffia, folded to 4" for the sweeping part, hold around the skewer, and use a bit of glue to hold the bristles on the stick. I actually pierced the cupcake with the skewer for further effect. The Hazelnut butter cream is fab!
Anyway, back to the current projects of the events in front of me at this time.

This week, Monday is the start of my holiday list. Joanne and I will decide on her birthday menu. the Art league has a special meeting today with a watercolor artist. I am hoping there might be ongoing ideas from that, and the big garage sale is Friday. We have a table this year so need cash and price stickers etc . In between all that, I always have PickleBall and also the Sweet Pickles dinner get together, Thursday at 5. Thanksgiving is almost here with pies and turkey as usual. I love my cranberry/orange/jalepeƱos sauce made with fresh berries. Use at least 2 bags of cranberries to have extra in the pantry during the year. We are joining Joe and Bonnie Jarmy and others at a table for 12 in the Clubhouse on the actual day. Together the cooking is spread over all participants like an organized PotLuck.
This is it for now. It is already 10.30 and Gracie is nudging me for her second outing of the day.
More later.
